The
Fest-I-Wall
People,
especially in big cities, are in need of getting rid of daily burdens. How it
can be possible? One way is entertaining, of course. For students,
entertainment is limited, for not everyone has equal corporeal state. At this
point, universities provide various activities like festivals during the spring
terms. Also, as a part of entertainment, some students drink alcohol in
festivals. Most of the universities prohibit alcohol inside the festival;
however, restrictions cause only more trouble not less. Namely, instead of
banning alcohol and not taking other measures, authorities should let students
drink alcohol.
As a
first aspect to justify my opinion, when authorities ban alcohol, students who
want to drink take their own drinks to the festival area in a secret way. Guardians
wall the area and, to some extent, frisk students in order not to let them leak
into festival area with drinks. However, this is not relieving the harshness of
the uproar in the crowd, even causing long queues, fights and conflict between
guards and students. Violence and restriction cause nothing than pain so
authorities and students should reach the agreement that only freedom can
provide peace.
Secondly,
students who want to drink hang around the campus and drink at nearby alcohol
merchants. Now, you can say; that is not a big deal. Students can drink outside
and entertain inside. Notwithstanding, that is not that easy. Crowds of
students drink outskirts of the campus and they are in danger of death. There are
numerous injuries, fights and murders in streets each year. I want to come to
the point that granting lives of students during festivals is one of
responsibilities of universities and not wanting to take this responsibility is
a behavior which modern world’s universities should not act. In other words,
universities should value their students not ignore.
According
to some people, the prohibition of alcohol is the best way to prevent chaos.
They think in a dictatorial way. People have the need of freedom in their
nature and if they want to do something, no limitation can stop them. Walling
around people and saying them what to do only make them angrier. This is not
valid for only alcohol; it is valid for everything in life. If you restrict
people by walling around them, they somehow will pull down that wall onto your
head. Only way to reach an agreement is to let it be and think wisely.
All
in all, restrictions only make circumstances worse. Here and there, we see
results of restricting people; riots, wars and conflicts. We are living in a
social world and it should not be a problem if someone drinks during the
festivals with being respectful to others’ rights. I mean, everyday passing by,
we are walling around ourselves and the restriction of alcohol in festivals is
only another brick on the wall.
